NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing

The NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing is the entry level course and you will be expected to gain the basic skills within a hair and beauty environment. There are no entry exams, but you may need at least 3 GCSEs grade E or above.

As with most NVQ courses, you will need to get a placement within the field of work i.e. working in a hairdressing salon.

 For this course, you may be expected to demonstrate the ability to perform the following tasks:

- Be aware of health and safety within the workplace
- Ability to shampoo and condition hair
- Maintaining work areas effectively.
- Maintaining salon treatment work areas

Most NVQ providers will expect you to choose additional units, some of which are shown below:

- Blow drying all types of hair
- Assisting with hair dye
- Basic techniques of plaiting hair
- Removing hair extensions
- Reception duties and other general admin duties
